Reaction Paper: Sandra Carrion

so its been awhile since Sandra Carrion came to our class to speak but im finally getting around to writing my reaction paper.
well the first thing i would like to say is that i was very interested in what she was saying and found it to be very informative. i actually wasnt really sure what a fine art photographer was so i was happy to find out what it was, and am now very interested in learning more about it. a fine art photographer shoots pictures to fulfill their own creative vision, this is the same reason in am interested in photography and take pictures myself so becoming a fine art photographer is a career path that i plan in learning more about and keeping it in mind regarding my own career path. there was only one thing i wasnt happy to hear, which is something that i have been hearing alot of, and that is that you will need another job.
another thing i was interested in hearing about was the HDR process. it was really nice to see an actual example of it since i havent before, and now that ive seen them, im pretty amazed. the pictures she showed us look so real and almost 3D like. after seeing them i looked up how to make pictures like that and tried it out using photoshop and it work out =//
i also really liked how she showed us the pictures and had us try and guess which pictures made it to the end. i was really surprised at some that were and some that werent. it makes me understand that just because a picture doesnt make it to the end doesnt mean its bad, and it makes me realize how hard it would be to be successful in a competition.
another thing that i really liked hearing about and looking at was the little plastic cameras and the pictures she took with them. i remember awhile ago getting a magazine in the photo seminar class and there was an article in it about the old little plastic cameras like that holga, and since then i have been wanting one really badly. i remember one picture she had that was a double exposure at a cemetery that i really liked. i noticed there were these little red spots on the picture that she said was from light leaks in the camera and i thought they looked really cool.

Reaction Paper: Purple Hearts by Nina Berman

its been awhile since i have posted anyhting on here =/

awhile ago me and linette went to the photo gallery in the building with the cafeteria. i didnt know what would be there when i walked in and when i did i found that there were all pictures of people in the military that have been injured taken by nina berman. it always amazes me how a picture can give off such strong emotions. all of the pictures were of people who were injured in the military in there natural environment (their homes and neighborhoods). it takes a special and amazing kind of person to do some of the things they do to serve our country and its hard to imagine what it must be like for them. this is why i enjoyed these pictures soo much. they were very natural and real looking and forced you to take a look at these people lives and how some struggle everyday. i think this needs to be done more often because the pictures really try and put you into their world and give you a better understanding of how they live. one picture in particular that i found very interesting was of a man missing his leg sitting on a bed with his head in his hand. the picture was very blue looking in colors which i think added to the mood of the whole picture. the way he is placed especially made this picture powerful for me... he was just sitting there in his own bed... probably like he does everyday and then you see him with his artificial leg and he is almost hiding his face and you just feel pain to see that this is his life everyday. all together they were great pictures filled with emotions. it was a very good subject to see and i think should be seen more often. i have to thank nina berman for these and hope other people go out and see them. support the troops :D

First Photo Speaker

In photo seminar today, we had our first speaker, a wedding photographer. It was very informative and interesting. While i dont know what i want to do in the field of photography yet, i am open to any and all types. Event photography in general has always scared me a little. the idea that you really only have the one moment to take the best picture ids what scares me, if you mess it up you cant get that moment back. this also made me aware of how expensive photography is =//

I loved how she had her own style and how her pictures had a feel of fashion.

bloginggg

i keep forgetting to keep up with this blog thing =//

well my digital photography class was pretty intense todayy. after shooting all my pictures for the project we had, we were only given that class time to edit the pictures, print pictures, and everything elsee like put them on a cd. im just realizing that its going to be like this alll the time now. which wouldnt be that bad if printing was easier.

that is what i feel like will be my biggest problem with the projects... its hard to get a print that looks nearly as goos as it does on the computer

Today in my digital photography class we went through a bunch of photos by different artist. One picture that specifically stood out to me was by Jerry Uelsmann. When i got home i googleed some of his stuff... its all pretty intense. What amazes me the most is that most of his stuff was done on film and edited in the darkroom. I find it hard to even imagine this being true after seeing some of the pictures he has done... they all look so imposssible and surreal to be pictures. ive always enjoyyed manipulating pictures in photoshop to make this look fake or surreal but to see someone do that in an actual darkroom blowww my mind o.O

here is some of his stuff:
